History of the Skruglitel

As you may already know, the photo editor is called "Skruglitel." The website got its name because initially, Skruglitel performed just one function – cropping photos into circles. It had a simple design and looked like this: Skruglitel version 1. You can still try editing any image using this first version! Unfortunately, this version could only create photos for avatars, as the maximum output size was just 200x200px.

In the second version, photos were cropped based on the physical size of the frame, and they could be placed on any background – there was no white border around the photo as in the previous version. Additionally, a counter was introduced to show the number of photos edited per day, so visitors could see how many photos had been rounded that day. However, the site still only cropped photos into circles without further editing options.

The third version was one of the most significant updates. First, the website's design was completely revamped. Second, users could now choose from four shapes for their photos: circle, teardrop, square, and oval. Finally, the third major addition was a full suite of photo filters, including Vintage, Lomo, Brighten, Sin City, Sunrise, Tech Process, Orange, Love, Grunge, Jorge, Pin, Old Album, Sunny, Mist, Her Majesty, Nostalgia, Hemingway, and Contrast. Users warmly welcomed these changes and enthusiastically used the new features, particularly the filters, as there were very few online alternatives at the time.

The fourth version became so popular that after the release of the fifth version, users requested the option to keep using the fourth version alongside the updated site. The main reason was the frames that could be added to photos. There were frames for both circular and square photos, and users loved them. However, in the fifth version, the frames were undeservedly removed and replaced with hand-drawn vector stickers, which, although popular, didn’t achieve the same level of enthusiasm.

That’s why in the current version of Skruglitel, frames have made a comeback. They are now of much higher quality and come in a greater variety. Stickers remain as well, and now you can even add your own custom sticker (preferably in PNG format with a transparent background).
